Clover pricing explained: direct vs. through a merchant services agent
Clover hardware is sold directly and through many banks and agents, and the pricing can differ a lot. Here's what Clover publishes for direct accounts, and what to ask before you buy.
Clover's published pricing
As published on Clover's website, checked October 2026. Rates change; confirm current pricing with Clover.
| In person (published direct rates) | 2.3% + 10¢ on many plans; 2.5% to 2.6% + 10¢ on some entry plans (varies by business type and plan) |
|---|---|
| Typed in / card not present | 3.5% + 10¢ |
| Software | Monthly software fee set by business type and plan |
| Hardware | Purchase or multi-month subscription, depending on plan |
| Note | Clover devices sold through banks or resellers can carry different rates and terms |
What that rate costs at real volume
Processing cost only, using the Clover's common published in-person rate (2.3% + 10¢) and a $40 average ticket. Monthly software, hardware and other fees are not included.
| Monthly card sales | Transactions | Est. monthly fees | Est. annual fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | 250 | $255.00 | $3,060 |
| $30,000 | 750 | $765.00 | $9,180 |
| $75,000 | 1,875 | $1,912.50 | $22,950 |
Simple arithmetic on published rates, for illustration. Your effective rate depends on your card mix, ticket size and how cards are taken. Try your own numbers in the processing fee calculator.
When Clover is a good fit
- You like Clover's hardware and app ecosystem
- You're comfortable with published flat-rate pricing and the monthly software fee
- Your volume is modest and predictable
When it's worth comparing
- You'd rather have interchange-plus or a cash discount program
- You want to compare total cost (hardware, software and processing) against other platforms
- Your current Clover came with an expensive lease or unclear terms
How to compare fairly
A rate on a pricing page is only part of the cost. To compare Clover with any merchant account, including one through us, line up the same things side by side:
- Effective rate: total fees divided by total card sales, from a real statement.
- Monthly fees: software, gateway, PCI, statement and account fees.
- Hardware: purchase, subscription or included with an agreement, and who owns it.
- Terms: agreement length, early termination fees and whether equipment is locked to the provider.
- Pricing options: flat rate, interchange-plus or a cash discount program.
If Clover comes out ahead for your business, stay. If it doesn't, we'll show you exactly why.
