How processing fees add up
Most flat-rate pricing has two parts: a percentage of the sale and a fixed fee per transaction. The fixed fee matters most when tickets are small. On a $6 coffee, 15¢ alone is 2.5% of the sale. Add monthly software or account fees, and your effective rate (total fees divided by total card sales) is the number that really tells you what you pay.
